ISIS was originally known as SIRUIS, meaning bright star. She was a goddess of civilization, agriculture and religion. She was the sister (sometimes wife, depending on the particular tale) of Osiris, the king. At one point, Osiris is murdered and Isis' breath resurrects him. Isis was considered the bridge between Heaven and Earth and has power over life and death.
