GAIA or GAEA is believed by some sources to be the original deity behind the Oracle at Delphi. Depending on the source, she passed her powers on to either Poseidon, Apollo or Themis.
Many Neopagans actively worship Gaia today as the ultimate Mother Goddess. Beliefs regarding Gaia vary, ranging from the common Wiccan belief that Gaia is the spiritual embodiment of the earth, to the broader Neopagan belief that Gaia is the goddess of all creation and the mother goddess from which all other gods are born. Gaia is sometimes thought to embody the planet Earth.
