BAST, an ancient Eygptian goddess usually portrayed as a cat or lioness, was the patron goddess of pleasure and music, protected against contagious diseases and evil spirits, and the mother of all cats (Egypt's most sacred animal). Bast is also known as BASTET, UBASTI, and PASHT.
